Homemade Saturday

Today has been a home day, the girls and I had nothing to do and nowhere to be and as the weather was rubbish we stayed at home.  Miss M received Blast Lab Project Book for her last birthday and spent most of the last week pouring over it deciding which project to do, this resulted in a curious shopping list including red cabbage, lemon juice and nail varnish remover!  This was what we managed to achieve today

  • Miss M Maths Homework
  • Miss C starting some more crystals for her Crystal Garden

  • Extracting pH indicator from red cabbage

This was really cool, we used all sorts of stuff like lemon juice, lime juice, vinegar, even toilet cleaner to see what happens.  This is what happens when you mix them ALL together including vinegar and bicarb of soda!

  • extracting DNA from saliva using nail varnish remover (how CSI of us!)
  • Making Home Made Peanut Butter for lunch although we added a little extra honey to make it sweeter

  • A very little bit of sewing for me
  • A lot of Lego playing for the girls

  • Home made Chicken Nuggets for tea
  • Watching Matilda with the kids
  • Watching The Voice
  • Having a well earned rest!!!!!!!!!

I can’t believe how much we did today although I didn’t manage to get Miss M to get dressed all day! Today was a good day, spending it with the girls and managing to do the things they’ve asked to do instead of being ‘too busy’, or ‘later’, today was a day for grabbing the bull by the horns and enjoying the things we’ve done.

How about you, did you have a  lazy day or busy day?

Too much too young?

I want to make another version of Simplicity 2209 but need some advice.  Can a grown woman, late 30s, mother of 2, fairly conservative and plump carry off a gingham dress?  I do love the look of gingham but just a little afraid its too young for me.

I like the darker larger gingham squares rather than little ones

I usually wear pinky/reddy colours but I’m afraid I’ll look a little too Italian-restauranty.

I don’t want to look like a school girl!

What do you think, to gingham or not to gingham?  I did want to make a raspberry linen version but I’m having trouble finding the right shade, I could go for a solid cotton (quilting cotton but don’t tell anyone!  The pattern can carry off less fluid fabrics) in the right colour instead.  What to do………

What am I missing out on?

Am I the only blogger in the sewing community who just doesn’t get Pinterest

I signed up for it about a year ago but I just haven’t gotten the bug like everyone else has.  Everywhere I look on t’internet people are finding great things on Pinterest but I’m just not getting it.  Even the BBC had a feature on it recently. I have started a few boards looking at fabrics I like but then I lose interest and forget they are there.  I use Microsoft One Note as a way of making notes and storing links, lists and plans so maybe I don’t need Pinterest as well.  I follow LOADS of blogs so maybe that's why it doesn’t appeal to me, I get loads of inspiration from them instead.  I get these emails occasionally to say that someone is now following me and I think, ‘Good luck to you as I' never update it and you won’t get much input from me!’  What about you, do you use it?  Can you explain what's  so cool about it?  Or are you like me a bit bemused by the whole Pinterest thingy?
